The Cessna A-37 "Dragonfly" attack aircraft was developed from the T-37 trainer and used in military operations in Vietnam. A series of new equipment such as a GAU-2B A 7.62mm machine gun, two wingtip auxiliary fuel tanks, six underwing pylons, enhanced landing gear, and two more powerful J85 engines were installed on the aircraft . The new A-37A is affectionately referred to by pilots as the "Super Starling." They entered service in Vietnam as the 604th Air Assault Squadron of the Third Tactical Fighter Wing from July 17, 1967.
